Piijei (pronouced Pee-Jay) is one of the very few female music producers in Nigeria today. She started out playing the drumset as a teenager and has done so for nearly 15 years of her life. Born in the 80's, she was raised in Lagos, Nigeria to a Yoruba father and an Efik mother. Her journey into music started as a child while following her father (who was also a multi-instrumentalist) to live shows in which he often performed. With the support of her father, She learned the basics of the guitar but eventually moved to the drumset as a teenager and has been playing it ever since. She was also a member of her local church choir for over a decade and also learned the basics of piano playing.
She efficiently combined schooling with her music and is a Banking and Finance graduate of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. In 2004, she got interested in digital music creation and was taught the basics by two of the most popular Nigerian music producers, Kraftmatiks and Tee-Y Mix. She, however, did not take full advantage of what she learned till 2007. Since then,She has never looked back. Music ,she says, is her greatest passion and all that she really knows about. Piijei has worked hard in trying to prove to the world that she can succeed in an aspect of music where you find mostly men. She does not abhor the challenge, rather she embraces it. She loves what she does and is currently trying to be better at it with each passing day.
PiiJei is a versatile music maker. Her strengths are especially Hip Hop, techno and R&B. Her beats are unique as well as inspiring. She has worked with Andy Desai, Jo Harris and a number of foreign and local clients. She's also the Founder and CEO of Maverick Productions which currently offers music production and promotion services.
